Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about KoeCode.
General
What is KoeCode?
KoeCode is a hands-free interface for running AI coding agents like Claude Code on your Mac. It lets you control powerful programming agents using your voice, so you can build, debug, and refactor code without touching the keyboard. Available for macOS and iOS.
Which coding agents are supported?
KoeCode currently supports Claude Code (by Anthropic) and OpenCode. Both agents can work with any programming language and can read, write, and modify files in your projects autonomously based on your voice instructions.
What do I need to get started?
You need to have Claude Code or OpenCode already installed and configured on your Mac. KoeCode is a wrapper that provides a voice interface to control these tools, so make sure your preferred coding agent is set up and working before using KoeCode.
What permissions does KoeCode need?
KoeCode requires access to the Microphone (to capture your voice commands) and Local Network (to allow your iPhone to connect and control sessions remotely). These permissions are requested when you first launch the app.
Which languages can I use for voice commands?
KoeCode primarily supports English and Spanish, but it may work with other languages as well. The app uses multiple speech recognition engines, so language support can vary depending on your device and configuration.
Does KoeCode work offline?
KoeCode requires an internet connection since the AI coding agents run in the cloud. Your Mac needs to be online for the agents to process your commands and interact with your codebase.
Is my voice data private?
Yes, we take privacy seriously. Your voice is processed locally on your device and is never sent to the cloud. For more details on how we handle your data, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
How much does KoeCode cost?
The Mac app is completely free, forever. The iPhone app is a paid companion app that gives you the freedom to keep working while you move around, away from your desk.
Does KoeCode work on Windows or Android?
Currently, KoeCode is only available for macOS and iOS. We focus exclusively on Apple platforms because they provide the seamless experience, security, and integration we need to deliver a truly hands-free coding workflow.
Mac App
How does the Mac app work?
The Mac app runs your coding agents in a terminal and lets you control them with your voice. Just speak your instructions, and the agent will read, write, and modify files in your project. You see everything happening in real time on your screen.
What are the system requirements?
KoeCode requires a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later). We recommend keeping macOS updated to the latest version for the best experience and compatibility.
Do I need an iPhone to use it?
No, the Mac app works completely on its own. You can control your coding agents using your voice directly from your Mac. The iPhone app is optional and adds the ability to continue your sessions remotely.
Is my code secure?
Yes. KoeCode runs entirely on your Mac and acts as a voice wrapper for your coding agents. Your code, prompts, and project data are never sent to the cloud. Everything stays local on your machine.
iPhone App
How does the iPhone app work?
The iPhone app connects to your Mac running KoeCode, allowing you to control your coding agents remotely using your voice. You see a chat-style interface showing all interactions, questions, responses, and tasks being executed in real time.
Does it require my Mac to be running?
Yes, the iPhone app is a companion app that requires your Mac to be running KoeCode. The coding agents run on your Mac, and the iPhone connects to it to send voice commands and receive updates.
How do I connect from the internet?
When you're not on the same network as your Mac, you'll need a secure point-to-point connection tool like Tailscale or ZeroTier. Both are free to use and create a private network between your devices, allowing your iPhone to securely reach your Mac from anywhere.
Is the connection secure?
Yes. When you pair your iPhone with your Mac, you enter a PIN code that establishes a trusted and encrypted connection between both devices. All communication is protected, ensuring your commands and data remain private.
